VERSLAG - LLIRIA 2012 – DE PREMIERE VAN DE
MICHAELS DAY SYMPHONY 19-23 DECEMBER
The premiere of the Michaels Day Symphony –
Lliria - 19-23 december 2012

Marc van Delft componeerde in 2011 een nieuw werk voor de ‘Banda Union Musicale de Lliria’, een Spaans top-harmonie-orkest uit de regio van Valencia wat in maart 2010 zijn uit 1994 stammende werk ‘Michaelssymfonie’ opus 45 had uitgevoerd.
Dit werk had op 31 maart 2010 een groot succes.
Marc van Delft did compose in 2011 a new work for the BANDA UNION MUSICALE DE LLIRIA, a Spanish top level wind orchestra which played in 2010 his
'Michaels symphony' opus 45 from 1994.

In de 1e Michaelssymfonie uit 1994 had Marc een Vrije School Michaelslied geciteerd (in zijn eigen versie zoals hij het had onthouden vanuit een verre herinnering uit zijn jeugd…), het lied: ‘Michael, Michael, met uw sterren zwaard’.
In het nieuwe werk zou Marc dit liedje ook weer citeren, het wordt zelfs 2x door een sopraansolo gezongen.
In dit YouTube-filmpje kan je dit liedje beluisteren. Marc zingt het vanuit de ‘Mont st. Michel’ in Frankrijk, staande onder het Michaelsbeeld.
IN the first Michaels symphony (1994), Marc had quoted a Free School Michaels Song (in his own version, in the way he had remembered the song out of a far memory from his youth…), the song: ‘Michael, Michael, with your starry sword’.
In the new work, Marc would also quote this little song, it is sung twice by a soprano soloist!

Bij het bezoek aan Lliria in 2010 vertelde men dat boven Lliria, op de berg, een beroemd Michaelsklooster stond waar ieder jaar op 29 september hordes pelgrims naartoe trokken, dan werd het Michaelsbeeld uit de kloosterkerk gehaald en in een processie door Lliria gedragen.
During the visit at Lliria in 2010, Marc was told, that on the mountain in Lliria, there was a famous Michaels monastery. Every year, on September the 29th, many pilgrims went to the Michaels church at the mountain, and took the sculpture of Michael out of the church for a Michaels procession in Lliria.

Toen we het klooster bezochten op 29 maart 2010 heeft de conservator, meneer Amadeus Civera, het locale Michaelslied ‘Gozos’ (Joy) aan ons voorgezongen, een simpel en vrolijk volksliedje.
During the visit of the monastery on march the 29th 2010, mr. Amadeus Civera, the conservator of the monastery, did sing the local, Llirian Michaels song for Marc and Ria, a simple and merry folksong, called ‘Gozos’ (Joy).

Het leek Marc een leuk idee om speciaal voor dit orkest een nieuw werk te componeren, wat helemaal op Lliria en hun Michaelsheiligdom zou zijn geïnspireerd en waarin eventueel dit melodietje ook zou worden verwerkt.
Het werd de MICHAELS DAY SYMPHONY opus 152 uit 2011.
It seemed to Marc a nice idea to compose a new work for this Banda, which would be inspired on Lliria and their Michaels monastery, in which Marc could use this little song. It became the MICHAELS DAY SYMPHONY opus 152.

Eigenlijk was het nieuwe werk geschreven voor de Michaelsdag op 29 september, helaas was een uitvoering op die dag niet mogelijk, dus werd de première gepland voor het kerstconcert op 22 december 2012.
In fact, the new work was composed for the Michaels day on the 29th of September, but a performance on that day was impossible, so the premiere was planned for the Christmas concert on December the 22nd 2012.

Marc en Ria zouden Lliria bezoeken van 19-23 december 2012 en op de 19e vertrekken.

WOENSDAG (Wednesday) 19 DECEMBER

Het vliegtuig zou pas om 17.40 uur vertrekken, dus we konden rustig aan doen die dag.
The airplane would leave that day on 17.40, so we had much time for the travel from The Hague to Schiphol.

We kwamen iets na achten in Valencia aan en werden opgehaald door de dirigent meneer Enrique Artiga en mevrouw Angles Mocholi Romero, de Engelse lerares die de vorige keer, in 2010, ook voor tolk speelde.
Marc and Ria did arrive after 20.00 and mr. Artiga and madame Angles Mocholi Romero, the English teacher, who was there also in 2010, and who could translate for us.

We zetten eerst de koffers neer op ons logeeradres, waar we de vorige keer ook verbleven.
Daarna gingen we met beiden wat eten in het Banda Union clubgebouw.
First, we did put our coffins at the apartment, and went to the club building of the Banda Union to eat something.

Het werd nu duidelijk dat ze erg te leiden hadden onder de economische crisis.
Ze hadden geen geld voor een normaal programmaboek met uitgebreide toelichting en de teksten van het werk (de koorpartij), en geen geld om een professionele geluidsopname te laten maken…
Wat betreft het orkest: Het koor is niet echt geweldig zei de dirigent, maar de koorleden die we tegenkwamen waren allemaal heel enthousiast en vonden het een geweldig stuk…
The Banda suffered very much from the economical crisis, because there was no money for a normal programme book with explanations and the texts which would sing the choir, and no money to make a professional recording.
But the members of the choir we did meet were very enthusiastic about Marc’s piece!

We zouden de volgende dag met dirigent uit Bunol, Henrie Adams afspreken, die we in 2008 2x hadden bezocht, in januari en augustus, toen hij mijn 2e symfonie uitvoerde. We zouden de volgende dag elkaar rond 13 uur bellen.

DONDERDAG (Thursday) 20 DECEMBER

De volgende ochtend hebben boodschappen gedaan in de Mercadona, een enorme supermarkt om de hoek. Daarna hebben we Henrie gebeld, en op het clubhuis van de Banda Union afgesproken.
After some shopping’s we went to the BANDA UNION where M&R would meet Henrie Adams.

Daar troffen we ook die leuke enthousiaste man aan, de heer Coronel, die ons altijd zo vrolijk in het Spaans toesprak, zonder dat wij hem konden verstaan.
Ik liet hem mijn teksten van het werk in het Spaans lezen uit de partituur, want hij zou de toespraak houden en aangezien ze geen geld hadden om een uitgebreid programmaboekje te maken was het dus wel essentieel dat hij de inhoud zou kennen en dit aan het publiek zou kunnen vertellen, want het werk is helemaal op Lliria geschreven.
At the Banda Union M&R did meet mr. Coronel, an enthusiastic man who did always enthusiastically speak to us in Spanish without that we could understand what he said…
Marc did let him read the texts of the work [Michaels Day Symphony] in Spanish, because he would hold the speech, and because there was not a programm book it would be very important that he could tell about the content of the piece to the public, because the work is especially written for Lliria…

Toen kwam Henrie Adams, die ook nog even met de heer Coronel sprak.

Ik heb Henrie, die helaas het concert niet zou kunnen bijwonen, de partituur laten zien beschreven, hij was erg geïnteresseerd.
Marc did show the score to Henrie, who was very interested, but could not attend the concert.

Overigens: Het weer was prachtig, zonnig, blauwe luchten, met een lekker temperatuurtje!
The weather was warm and beautiful, with sun and blue skies.

Na het verblijf op de Banda Union gingen we op weg naar een groot commercieel winkelcentrum om te eten nabij Valencia.
After that we went to a commercial shopping center to eat.

We gingen naar een Amerikaans restaurant waar we aten en lang leuke en interessante gesprekken met Henrie voerden.
Henrie is iemand die van converseren houdt, een geestverwant, geïnteresseerd in mijn opvattingen over muziek en politiek, hij is bv. ook erg tegen het neoliberalisme en geïnteresseerd in Naomi Klein.
We hebben veel over het muziekleven, de bezuinigingen, orkesten, het RO, dirigenten, concerten, het nieuwe huis van Ria, haar nieuwe baan, etc. gepraat.

Eenmaal in Lliria heb ik met de dirigent Enrique Artiga het werk doorgenomen op de tempi, die hij toch vrij nauwgezet had opgevolgd, alleen vond ik nu dat bepaalde stukken wel sneller moesten als de metronoomcijfers.
In Lliria, Marc looked with mr. Artiga to the score, especially in connection to the tempi, Marc did want some passages quicker in tempo.

Daarna kwamen we nog allerlei leuke mensen van de Banda Union tegen, vooral koorleden, de dames waren erg aardig en enthousiast en ik werd meermaals gezoend door ze, dat was erg vermakelijk en hartverwarmend, die Spaanse hartelijkheid!
M&R did meet also many nice people from the Banda Union and the choir, especially the spontaneity of the Spanish ladies was very amusing and heart warming!

De repetitie, die pas na half 11 begon, was teleurstellend en klonk niet zoals ik me had voorgesteld omdat de helft van het orkest er niet was, ik kreeg dus geen goed beeld ervan.
The rehearsal was a disappointment, because half of the orchestra wasn’t there, so it didn’t sound like Marc had imagined it.

Meneer Artiga verzekerde me echter dat het op de generale repetitie, als het orkest compleet zou zijn, wel goed zou klinken, en ik me niet ongerust hoefde te maken, en hij heeft gelijk gekregen…
But mr. Artiga told us that it would sound all right at the general rehearsal when the banda would be complete…

The year Zero – het einde van de Mayakalenders /
The end of the Maya kalenders – 21-12-12

Morgen is het WINTERZONNEWENDE !!
De kortste dag van het jaar, de diepste duisternis, maar we gaan nu na dit dieptepunt toch weer richting licht, de zon heeft de steenbokskeerkring bereikt, na deze dag gaan de dagen lengen en begint de winter met de steenbok…

Maar tevens is deze dag de dag waar de New Age beweging al 10-20 jaar over schrijft / roept dat dan alle MAYAKALENDERS AFLOPEN, een eind en een nieuw begin, THE YEAR ZERO !!!
Volgens de rampenfilm ‘2012’ en een zekere Gehril, die vele artikelen schreef in Frontier, en die wellicht rijk is geworden met zijn rampen-scenarioboeken, zou 21-12-12 het moment zijn dat de Apocalyps, de wereldondergang begint, enorme zonnevlammen zouden alle elektriciteit plat leggen, dat zou leiden tot rampzalige meltdowns van kerncentrales, supervulkanen moeten ontploffen, overstromingen zouden volgen, hele werelddelen zouden verzinken in de oceaan, de magnetische polen zouden switchen etc.

Andere New Age zwevers voorspellen het begin van een ‘verlicht tijdperk’, opeens wordt dan iedereen zomaar, plotsklaps ‘verlicht’…. zonder er enige moeite voor te hebben hoeven doen….
o.a. omdat we dan in een gebied van het melkwegstelsel zouden komen met een ‘hogere energie’, met ‘hogere ionen’ of zoiets, of ‘we gaan van de derde naar de vijfde dimensie’ wordt er geroepen….

Ook werd er geroepen dat op 21-12-12 drie dagen duisternis zou komen omdat het zonnestelsel dan een bepaald gebied van het melkwegstelsel binnen zou
treden….
Weer anderen zeggen dat ‘de goden terugkeren’, d.w.z. dat de ‘Niburianen’, de bewoners van de 12e planeet Niburi, door die ‘achterlijke Sumeriers’ abusievelijk voor ‘goden’ aangezien werden, volgens de kleitabletten-uitleg van Sitchin…. [a la Von Däniken… ‘Waren de Goden kosmonauten’….]
Dus de buitenaardsen zouden weer terugkeren, de ‘goden’ van weleer…
De bekende UFO-website Niburu is ernaar vernoemd…

[volslagen onzin natuurlijk want de mensen waren vroeger helderziend en konden de goden / engelen / natuurgeesten etc. waarnemen, dat waren geestelijke wezens en geen stoffelijke wezens die hier in ruimteschepen naar toe kwamen, en door die ‘achterlijke Sumeriers’ abusievelijk voor ‘Goden’ werden aangezien… dat zijn materialistische perverteringen van de waarheid! Bovendien waren de mensen vroeger veel wijzer dan nu en geen achterlijke barbaren zoals Von Daeniken en Sitchin ze voorstellen!]

Niets van dat al gaat natuurlijk gebeuren, want van al die theorieën klopt zowel natuurwetenschappelijk als antroposofisch gezien geen hout….

Ik heb dat in mijn mailings al vele malen geschreven, dat die hele 2012-massa-hysterie nergens op sloeg, en heel vaak kreeg ik de les gelezen dat ik het helemaal verkeerd had of soms werden mensen zelfs boos op me, dat ik het waagde zulke gekoesterde New Age-Heilige huisjes omver te schoppen !!!!

Maar morgen gaan we het sien, bulleefu….

Het sal men bunniewwu…..

Wie zou er gelijk hebben….

Many people and writers from the New Age Movement had foretold to mankind that at 21-12-12 all the Maya kalenders would end, and that many changes would take place, at ‘the year zero’…

For 21-12-12, enormous catastrophes were foretold, a switch of the magnetic poles, enormous sun flares, earthquakes, super volcanoes would erupt, there would be an arrival of ‘the gods’ , the outer space creatures from ‘Niburu’…
(in the vision of Sitchin, and the website niburu…)
Even 3 days of darkness were foretold for 21-12-12!!

Also New Age people had prophesised that mankind would be spontaneously ‘enlightened’, or we would go from ‘the third to the 5th dimension!’….!!!

Marc had always said and written that all this was nonsense, because non of these theories were truth, seen from the vision of the anthroposophy and the normal science.

So, the next day we would see who would be right !!

VRIJDAG / Fryday 21 DECEMBER 2012

De volgende ochtend was het prachtig weer met een heerlijk zonnetje….
Van ‘3 dagen duisternis’ is vooralsnog geen sprake…
Evenmin grootscheepse elektriciteitsuitval, aardbevingen of overstromingen, of andere rampen, en ook de Niburianen lieten zich niet zien….
Het is dus wel duidelijk wie er gelijk had over 2012 !
The next day, the sun did shine, it was beautiful weather, so there was no
‘3 days of darkness’ as was foretold, also there weren’t any catastrophes, earthquakes, etc.
So Marc was right and the New Age idiots were wrong!

We zouden een wandeling gaan maken naar de ermitage de Santa Barbara, want dat zag er op de kaart erg interessant uit, een ruïne op een heuveltop aan de rand van Lliria, en haarspeldbochten die erheen liepen….
This day, M&R would make a walk to the ‘eremitage de Santa Barbara’, a ruin on a hill top, which looked very nice on the map of Lliria…

Er zou nu dus 3 dagen duisternis moeten komen, maar daar was geen sprake van, het was prachtig zonnig weer, en terwijl we de heuvel bestegen [na eerst een wandeling door Lliria tot het einde van de stad] met de haarspeldbochten en de kruiswegstatie werd het uitzicht over de stad met de bergen op de achtergrond en de mooie blauwe hemel steeds mooier en grootser.
The weather was beautiful, sunny, and M&R had to ascend a hill after crossing through Lliria, a hill with crosses, and the view over the town became always more beautiful and greater!

Ook werd het Michaelsklooster op de berg steeds beter zichtbaar.

Tenslotte bereikten we na een zware klim de top van de berg met de oude kerkruïne, een mooie wandeling en een mooie plek met een mooi uitzicht met prachtig zomerweer.
At last, after a hard climb, M&R did reach the hill top with an old ruin.

Na daar wat te hebben rondgelopen besloten we om een andere weg te nemen, de kleine weggetjes de wildernis in…
Ria was nog ongerust, ‘en als ik nou een gebroken been krijg, wat dan….’
Maar ja, als ram zijnde, de pionier, wil je toch het liefste….:
‘To boldly go where no man has gone before’….
Dus we hadden allerlei woeste paden belopen tussen de cactussen, en het uitzicht op de ruïne van Santa Barbara werd ook steeds mooier.
M&R did walk around there, and after that, M&R walked into the wilderness, along cactuses, through the hills and the rocks, while the view on the ruin of Santa Barbara became always more clear.
Ria was a little bit afraid, she said: ‘And what if I get a broken leg!’…
But being an Aries, you always want ‘to boldly go where no man has gone before!’…

Tenslotte kwamen we achter de heuvel uit, bij een verharde weg die weer het stadje in liep. We hadden dus deze ‘levensgevaarlijke wandeling’ overleefd!
At last, M&R did find behind the hills a road which did lead again into Lliria.
M&R had survived the ‘dangerous walk’!

Het was een stevige wandeling en tenslotte kwamen we weer bij de Banda Union waar we wat hebben gegeten, en ondertussen zagen we op het nieuws dat er zo’n 50-miljoen mensen naar Maya-land waren gegaan om

te vieren….
Het is een grote klucht, wat ik al jaren roep, dat vanuit de antroposofie gezien en de wetenschap niets maar dan ook helemaal niets van die modieuze maya-kalender-onzin klopt!
Er zijn een heleboel mensen boos geworden op mij daarom !!
Maar goed, ik krijg natuurlijk altijd gelijk, nu ook weer...
After the walk, M&R did arrive at the Banda Union, where M&R did eat something, and on the News on TV you could see that about 50 million people did visit Maya-land to celebrate THE YEAR ZERO…!!!

Daarna zijn we even naar ons appartement gegaan, en toen weer met de laptop naar de Union omdat ze gezegd hadden dat we daar internet konden ontvangen.
Het was al een hele heisa om de code te pakken te krijgen van het restaurant-personeel, maar het internet ging maar heel moeizaam en viel steeds uit.
After that, M&R went to the appartement to get the laptop to the Union, because they said that M&R could receive internet, but that didn’t work at all…

Ik kreeg nog een bericht van Pedro Vicente Alama op e-mail, die 2,5 jaar geleden had gezegd mijn 2e symfonie te gaan uitvoeren.
Ik had graag iets met hem willen afspreken, maar het was moeilijk hem te bellen…. Ik kreeg nu zijn telefoonnummer zodat ik hem kon bellen.
Marc did get an e-mail message from Pedro Vicente Alama, a conductor who told Marc in 2010 that he wanted to perform his 2nd Symphony, which still didn’t happen, but Marc wanted to make an appointment with him. Pedro gave him his telephone number, so he could make an appointment.

En om een uur of 5 zou mr. Artiga komen.
Ria probeerde het verder met de computer en ik heb nog met de dirigent Enrique gepraat over de tempi die soms te langzaam waren, en andere zaken…
Eenmaal weer terug was het nog steeds niet gelukt met de computer en stelde ik voor om met mr. Artiga mee te gaan naar zijn huis om het daar verder te proberen.
Mr. Artiga would come around 5 o’clock, Marc did talk with him about the tempi, which he wanted to change at some points.
After that, M&R went to the house of mr. Artiga, in order to look at their
e-mails…

Daarna zouden we met Enrique Artiga op de Banda Union nog een hapje gaan eten en dan begon de generale repetitie….
Zo gezegd, zo gedaan.
Afterwards, we went to the Banda Union with mr. Artiga to eat something and to visit the general rehearsal.

Voor de repetitie ontmoette ik nog de koordirigent, een jongeman die mij veel complimenten maakte over het werk, genaamd Francesc Asphodel en de jongedame, Carmina Sanchez die de 2 soli zou zingen, want 2 x wordt [mijn versie] van het lied: ‘Michael, Michael, met uw sterren zwaard’ gezongen.
Ik had gevraagd zonder vibrato, zodat het op een jongenssopraantje zou lijken.

Toen begon de generale repetitie, en het orkest was compleet, wij gingen op de beste plek op het linker balkon zitten, en vol spanning wachtten wij op de inzet van het orkest.
Nu, en dat viel voor 100% mee!
Het orkest was nu compleet, en het klonk prachtig, precies zoals ik mij had voorgesteld!
The final rehearsal did begin, the Banda was complete, and M&R did sit above the Banda on the left balcony, and did wait full of tension on how it would sound…
The Banda was complete now, and now it did sound really beautiful and magnificent, just as Marc had imagined that it should have to sound!

Een grootse ervaring, en Ria vond het ook prachtig, want die was ook gedesillusioneerd na de teleurstellende repetitie van gisteren…
Dus wat dat betreft ook dood en opstanding, kerst, de geboorte van het nieuwe licht met de midwinter, de zon komt weer onze kant op, de dagen zullen gaan lengen!
Ook het koor klonk nu een stuk beter in combinatie met dit grote orkest!
It was a great experience, also Ria liked it very much, because she too was pessimistic after the first rehearsal…

Voordat sr. Artiga het hele stuk achter elkaar speelde heeft hij nog hard geoefend op allerlei gedeeltes!

Meneer Artiga zei later dat hij het 1e deel, de 'Schepping' wel een van de meest interessante en spannendste delen vond, en dat klonk ook prachtig, vooral het begin is wonderschoon, het deel 'Saturnus'…
Mr. Artiga did say later, that he did like very much the first part, ‘Creation’, that was one of the most interesting and exciting parts of the piece…
And that DID really sounded great, especially the beginning of the piece did sound wonderfully beautiful!

1/ Het deel ‘Saturnus’ [het begin, de oerduisternis…] klonk prachtig met die lange donkere G in het mannenkoor en al die soli in de althobo en de fluiten etc.!
1/ The part ‘Saturn’, the beginning, the primal darkness sounded great because of the low G in the male choir and the soli in the alto oboe and the flutes etc. !

2/ Dan de machtige en stralende kosmische zonsopgang van A dur, de schepping van het licht!

3/ Daarna het deel ‘de oude maan’, (ook Lemurie) alles vloeibaar en verleidelijk, want dat is ook de verleiding door Lucifer in het paradijs, en de tertsen van het astraallichaam, en de toon B, de 'maan-toon'…
Een heel spannend gedeelte!

Deel 2 - Het deel na de zondeval, deel 2 volgde, de versteende wereld, de mens, afgezonderd van de natuur en de goddelijke wereld, in zijn afzonderlijke stoffelijke lichaam, in het rijk van satan / ahriman, de vorst van deze wereld….
Part 2 – After the fall, the World of stones, rocks, mountains, of death, man is now apart, isolated from nature and the spiritual World, in his separated physical body, in the realm of Satan, ahriman, the ruler of this World…

Deel 3, ‘Michael’ in D groot, in de de opstandings- paas- en michaelstoonsoort, kwam ook beter uit de verf...
Prachtig, de climax in het midden, het hoogtepunt.

Na Pasen, Christus is naar de aarde gekomen om de mensheid te helpen de zondeval te overwinnen, en Michael is het aangezicht van Christus….

Daarna voor het eerst het Vrije school Michaelsliedje met de soliste, die was echter wel te zacht in verhouding tot de 3 piccolo’s….

Part 3 – ‘Michael’, in D major, the resurrection- and Michaels tone scale…
This sounded much better, with a nice climax in the middle…
After Easter, Christ came to the earth to help humanity to conquer the fall, and Michael is the face of Christ…
Then the Free school Michaels song with the soloist, who was to a little bit to soft comparing to the 3 piccolo’s….

Nu volgt dan het broeden van de duisternismachten voor een nieuwe aanval op de mensheid, dat klonk heel spannend….
Now the powers of darkness who are making plans to attack humanity again, that sounded very mysterious and exciting…

Deel 4 - Nu, dan het spektakelgedeelte APOCALYPS, een beetje in de Sacre-sfeer, dat klonk ook zeer indrukwekkend en was een leuk spektakel om te zien, vooral de paukeniste, die de partij van 2 paukenisten moest spelen, die had de hele partij veranderd met de 2e paukenist-noten ertussen gezet, een ongelooflijke prestatie voor deze zeer moeilijke partij!
Part 4 – Apocalypse, a very spectacular action part, al little bit in the Strawinsky - Sacre mood, this sounded also very impressive, and was also a nice spectacle to see, especially the timpani player!

Deel 5 - Nu dan Victoria, de overwinning.
De inzet van het dameskoor met het Michaelslied klonk indrukwekkend!
Part 5 – Victoria, the Victory of Michael ! The entrance of the choir with the Michaels song sounded very impressive!

Nu dan het hele heroïsche slotgedeelte wat ook vrolijk was, want ik had het Liriaanse Michaelslied erin verwerkt wat meneer Amadeus maart 2012 voor ons had voorgezongen!
Then the whole heroic closing part what also was very joyfull, because marc had used the merry Lirian Michaels song what mr. Amadeus had sung for Marc in 2010…

Midden tijdens de generale kwam meneer Amadeus naar ons toe en overhandigde hij mij twee dikke Michaelsboeken over het Michaelsklooster van Lliria.
During the general rehearsal, mr. Amadeus came to marc and gave him 2 big books about the Michaels monastario !

Hij vertelde dat we morgen om 11 uur daar zouden komen ontbijten en dat ik een boek met Michaelsliederen zou krijgen, hij zou een nieuw Michaelslied voorzingen en hij hoopte dat ik over 2 jaar weer een Michaelsstuk zou componeren!...
Mr. Amadeus told M&R that they could come tomorrow to the monastario for a big breakfast, and Marc would get a book with Michaels songs, he would sing a new Michaels song, and he hoped that Marc would compose a new Michaels piece in 2 years!

Leuk dat hij nu live kon horen hoe ik het [zijn] Michaelslied van Lliria in het werk had verwerkt dat hij 2,5 jaar geleden had voorgezongen!
Nice that mr. Amadeus could hear now how Marc had used the Michaels song which he had sung 2,5 years ago for him!

Het einde van het werk was natuurlijk indrukwekkend en overweldigend.
The end of the piece was very impressive and overwhelming !

Ria vond het ook leuk dat het einde ook nog ‘vrolijke muziek’ bevatte, het werk is afwisselender en attractiever als mijn Michaelssymfonie uit 1994 vond zij, en dat werk uit 1994 begon met een heel mystiek kosmisch Ligetiaans gedeelte…
Dat is een werk in een grote lange lijn, heel langzaam Bruckneriaans, bijna kosmisch van beweging, maar ook zeer diepzinnig en indrukwekkend en ook dramatisch, wat tot bijna vlak voor het slot nog steeds een dramatische en misschien wel wanhopige indruk wekt…
Ria did like the end of the piece, because it also contained ‘Joyfull music’. The work had more changing moods as the Michaels symphony from 1994, which is a very slow, cosmical moving Brucknerian work with a Ligetian mystical and cosmical beginning, a very dramatic and moving piece.

Deze nieuwe Michaels symfonie uit 2011 is toch wat luchtiger, en duidelijk ook voor een Spaans orkest bedoeld…
The opus 152 is a somewhat happier and more attractive piece, so it seems to fit more to the Spanish soul / mentality…

Na afloop van mijn werk hebben we nog even een stukje van Rimsky Korsakow gehoord, en gingen heel laat naar bed.
After the General rehearsal, M&R did hear the rehearsal of Rimsky Korsakows Sheherazade [1st part] and went to bed very late!

ZATERDAG (Saturday) 22 DECEMBER

Het zou vandaag een drukke dag worden, we moesten om 10 voor 11 op de BANDA UNION zijn, dan zou 'EL PRESIDENTE', meneer Pedrola, ons naar het Michaelsklooster brengen voor een ‘ontbijt’ met meneer Amadeus Civera.
It would become a very busy day, M&R had to be at the Banda Union at 10.50 for the ‘Breakfast’ at the Michaels monastery with mr. Amadeus Civera.
‘El Presidente’ Jos? Vicente Pedrola would bring M&R there.

Toen we op deze mooie plek met het overweldigende uitzicht aankwamen, kwamen we ook een jonge priester tegen, Javier genaamd, die goed Engels kon spreken, waar ik tijdens de maaltijd naast zat en gesprekken mee voerde.
At this beautiful place with the great view, M&R did also meet a sympathic young priest, called Javier, who could speak English very well. Marc sat next to him during the meal and could speak with him.

Ik vroeg of hij naar het concert kwam, maar hij had helaas andere verplichtingen, wat natuurlijk erg jammer is, want het werk was ook opgedragen aan de geestelijkheid van Lliria...
Javier did have other duties, so he couldn’t come to the concert this evening, which of course was very pity, because the work was also dedicated to the clergy of Lliria...!

Ik liet hem wat van de partituur zien en vertelde dat het een religieuze tekst was, dat wist hij niet, ik liet hem de teksten van de koorpartij lezen.
Marc did show him the score, and told that the work had a religious text, which he didn’t know.

Links van ons was een rijtje van 4/5 priesters, waaronder een oude priester, de broer van de man die het lliriaanse Michaelslied ‘Gozos’ had gemaakt wat ik in mijn opus 152 verwerkt heb, maar deze is helaas net een paar maanden geleden overleden, dus hij heeft net niet meer kunnen horen op wat voor fraaie wijze ik zijn liedje in mijn nieuwe 'meesterwerk' heb verwerkt….
Dat was natuurlijk wel triest om te horen.
Left of M&R, 4/5 priests were there, and there was also an older priest, the brother of the man who did make the Llirian Michaels song ‘Gozos’, which Marc used in his opus 152, but he died some months ago, which was very sad to hear, so now he couldn’t hear, on what interesting way Marc used his little song in his new 'masterpiece'….

De maaltijd die wij kregen voorgeschoteld bestond uit erg veel gangen en was wel zeer omvangrijk…
Het was weer een typisch vrolijke, Spaanse bedoening, er werd ook nog gezongen etc.
The meal was more a diner with many courses and was very bulky, with much meat and sweetness’s…
The mood was very merry, typical Spanish, the people did sing etc.

Nu bezochten we de Michaelskerk van het heiligdom en ook de kloostertuin.
Now, we did visit the church of Michael and the garden.

It is really a temple of light, a Sun temple, because Michael is a Sun God,
the archangel of the sun....

In de kerk van het Michaelsklooster te Lliria (Monastario de San Miguel) zongen de priester Javier en de conservator van het heiligdom, de heer Amadeo, het liedje: ‘Gozos’, ‘Joy’, het locale Lliriaanse Michaelslied, staande voor het Michaelsbeeld, dat ieder jaar op 29 september (Michaelsdag) door de duizenden pelgrims in een processie door Lliria wordt gedragen.

In the church of the Michaels Monastery in Lliria (monastario de San Miguel), the priest Javier and the curator of the sanctuary, Mr. Amadeo, did sing: "Gozos', 'Joy', the local Llirian Michaels Song, standing in front of the Statue of Michael, which every year, on the 29^th of  September (Michaels day) is taken away, and carried in a procession through Lliria by thousands of pilgrims.

‘El Presidente’ moest eerder weg, maar de priester van Lliria, Javier zou ons terugbrengen.
El presidente had to leave earlier, so, Javier would bring us back.

Hij bleek de priester te zijn van de grote kerk, de Esglesia i Convent del Remei,
vlak bij de Banda Union, die altijd gesloten is, die we dus nog niet van binnen hadden gezien.
Javier told that he was the priest of the main church of Lliria, the Esglesia i Convent del Remei near the Banda Union, which is always closed, so M&R still didn’t see it from inside.

Hij wilde deze wel aan ons laten zien, maar door tijdgebrek ging dat niet door, wel nodigde hij ons uit voor de avondkerkdienst om half 8.
Javier wanted to show the church to M&R, but that didn’t go on, because of lack of time, but he invited M&R for the evening service at half past 7.

We reden eerst via vreselijke enge kleine steile straatjes naar het oude stadsgedeelte op de heuvel, waar we 2,5 jaar geleden met Pedro Alama al waren geweest, maar de oude kerk die hij liet zien kenden we al.
At first, M&R did drive with the car of Javier to the steep little streets at the old town part on the hill and went to the old church, which M&R already did see 2,5 years ago, together with Pedro Vicente Alama….

The resurrection of Christ

Het was echt heel warm zomerweer….
The weather was really very warm and Sunny!

Daarna namen we afscheid, en liepen we naar het appartement.
After that, we said goodbay and did walk to the appartment.

Het was nog steeds prachtig weer… Maar wat te doen….???
The weather was to nice stay inside, so what could we do…???

Ik had Pedro Vicente Alama al vele malen proberen te bereiken, maar nu lukte het eindelijk, en hij nodigde ons uit om mee te komen naar de repetitie van de Banda uit Manisenses, een prachtig orkest dat ik eens op het WMC hoorde.
Marc did try to reach Pedro Vicente Alama already many times, but now, at last, he could reach him at the telephone, and he asked us to come to the rehearsal of the Banda from Manisenses, a beautiful sounding banda which Marc did hear at the WMC.

We troffen elkaar om een uur of half 4 bij de Banda Union en reden mee naar Manises, dat vlak bij het vliegveld van Valencia ligt.
Het bleek de keramiekhoofdstad te zijn en het orkest repeteerde in de oude keramiekschool, een oud gebouw in het oude centrum.
Het bleek een klein, benauwd repetitielokaaltje te zijn, dus niet zoals de Banda Union in het geweldige concertgebouw….
We did meet each other around half past 3 at the Banda Union, and drove to Manises, near the airport of Valencia.
Manises is the ceramic main city of Spain, and the banda exercises in the old ceramic school, an old building in the old centre.
The rehearsal was in a small room, not like the Banda Union in a nice great concert building….

Het klonk acoestisch dus ook nergens naar, maar mensen van de organisatie, de presidente en haar man namen ons mee om dingen te laten zien.
We hoorden ondertussen een prachtig koor, ze hadden daar ook een mooi koortje dat meezong in het begin van ouverture 1812 van Tsjaikowsky.
We hebben dat koor nog even aangehoord, en liepen toen met wat mensen mee die eerst het gebouw met alle faciliteiten lieten zien, toen lieten ze ons de oude stad zien, o.a. de kerk, waar we een in klederdracht verkleed zanggroepje met castagnetten e.d. aantroffen die Catalaanse volksliederen gingen zingen…
Daarna liepen we mee door de stad, met overal keramiek, zelfs alle straatnamen waren in artistieke keramiek gemaakt!
The people of the organisation of the banda [‘el presidente’ and her husband] took M&R with them to show them the building and the room with the prizes etc.
There was also a very nice sounding choir, who did sing the beginning of Ouverture 1812 [Tsjaikowsky].
Then they showed M&R the old town, and also the old church where a Catalonian singing group with castagnettes etc. did sing a folksong.
After that, they showed M&R the old town with everywhere ceramics, even the street names were made of artistic ceramics!

(we didn't see many of these Carmen-like 'femme fatal' types...)
 

Everywhere you did see beautiful ceramics, even the street names!
 

Of course, the bull is typical for Spain!
 

Ik had een hele zware rugtas, en al dat geloop was erg vermoeiend voor mij, ik was al zo moe, toen bood Ria aan om een tijdje mijn zware rugtas te dragen, maar een van die heren stond erop dan maar mijn rugtas te dragen, want een dame een zware rugtas te laten dragen, dat kon toch niet!
Hier in Spanje kent men dus nog echte hoffelijkheid naar dames toe !!!
Wederom weer enorm lieve, aardige, hoffelijke mensen, die Spanjaarden!!
Toen gingen we weer mee terug waar we werden getrakteerd op wijn en allerlei zoetigheid en lekkernijen, en Ria kreeg een hele zak sinaasappelen en andere vruchten mee [kaki???] !!

These people were again a typical example of the Spanish sweetness and hospitality, and also they were courteous to ladies, to Ria. At the end M&R did get many food and treats, oranges, wine, brandy and liqueur etc. !! It was really incredible!

Daarna hebben we nog het eind van de repetitie meegemaakt, het saxofoonconcert van Glazoenow, [bewerking van Baton Music!], met een beroemde saxofonist die wel heel erg rubato speelde!
At the end M&R did attend the end of the rehearsal with the saxophone concerto of Glazunow, with a famous saxophonist who played very rubato!

Na afloop bracht de dirigent ons weer terug naar het appartement.
After the rehearsal, Pedro did bring M&R to their apartment in Lliria.

Van daaruit liepen we weer naar de grote kerk om om half 8 Javier als priester mee te kunnen maken.
M&R did walk now tot the main church in order to attend the mass and being able to see Javier as a priest.

Het bleek een niet echt bijzondere typisch Spaanse barokkerk te zijn, maar wel was er nog een Michaels-relief…

Tijdens de hostie-uitdeling gingen we weer naar het appartement, want zo meteen was de grote avond…
During the communion, M&R went to their apartment, because of the coming concert.

at the Banda Union building there would be a
Christmas concert...

Eenmaal thuis moesten we onze nette kleren aantrekken etc. en alles klaarmaken voor het grote gebeuren…
Nu liepen we om een uur of half 10 naar de BANDA UNION, aten nog hapje en gingen naar onze plaatsen.
M&R had to put on their neat clothes etc. and they went around half past 9 to the building of the Banda Union, did eat something, and went to their places.
